Many do not realise the importance of getting their gutters regularly cleared. Over time, debris can build up in your gutters, especially if you have trees near your property. This build up prevents gutters from doing their important job correctly and can cause a variety of problems.
Although being a relatively small and seemingly insignificant part of a building, gutters actually play a vital role in keeping your property in good condition. The gutters work in harmony with your roof to collect and drain water away, protecting your walls, windows and everything in your home from water overflow and damage. Therefore keeping your gutters clean and clear of debris is an absolute must on your property maintenance list.
If you have trees surrounding your property, leaves and other debris will quickly build up in your gutters. We recommend clearing your gutters before autumn, September/October and then again after the main leaf fall in December/January.
If there are no trees nearby your property we recommend having your gutters cleared once a year, just before autumn to ensure gutters and downpipes are free flowing before the main rainy season.
Even if you don't think there's much in your gutters, we would still recommend getting them checked as a moss build up which can fall from your roof can easily block a gutter. This will cause water to overflow and potentially cause damp issues.
